Today we learn that former first lady, senator, secretary of state, and almost president, Hillary Clinton, was busy during the Americans’ abandonment of Afghanistan two years ago.
So busy that she was reprimanded by her erstwhile deputy and planner, Jake Sullivan. ‘What are you doing calling the Ukrainian government?’, he demanded to know.
Volodymyr Zelensky was one of several heads of government Clinton had appealed to in order to ease the rescue of around 1,000 Afghan women, called the ‘white scarves’ after the means by which they drew the attention of their rescuers.
‘Well, I wouldn’t have to call, if you guys would’, she said.
A nice touch. Even nicer would be knowing what colour the women of Ukraine’s scarves will be.
Lest we forget!
