It’s not easy to come up with the best platitude to describe the upcoming Middle Eastern ‘summit’, but ‘let sleeping dogs lie’ is the first one that comes to mind.
With wars in Yemen, Syria, Libya, and even Ethiopia winding down or at least appearing to stabilise, and the other states undone by the Arab Spring a decade ago having reverted to the repressive norm, a logic of rapprochement has at long last settled over the region.
Sometimes giving oneself a pat on the back is the right thing to do. But first do no harm. And beware of somebody saying exactly the wrong thing in the wrong place at the wrong time.
